Valley cities light up for the holidays

The Valley sure knows how to be festive, and they go all out during the holidays. While there were a few cities like McAllen, that have lit up their trees already, there are still many Valley cities that are having their tree lightings and even some parades this week.
Harlingen
Join the City of Harlingen for the Lighting of the Arroyo at McKelvey Park on Thursday, December 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. The park is located at 1325 S. 77 Sunshine Strip. They will host their Christmas Parade – Grinchmas in the City – on Historic Jackson Avenue on Friday, December 5 at 6 p.m. For more information, call (956) 216-4910.
The City of Edinburg is welcoming the holiday season again with the Miracle on McIntyre celebration, a two-day festive extravaganza that will bring the community together for a series of holiday events sure to spread joy and Christmas cheer.
The Senior Ambassadors men’s chorus, which has been a part of the Rio Grande Valley since 1985, is looking for singers to join their chorus. Senior Ambassadors is composed of men from the Valley and Winter Texan community.
Perhaps one of the more interesting museums in the Rio Grande Valley – and mind you, many of the museums in the Valley have a lot of history and are interesting as well – is the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg. Part of the museum is the 1910 jail.

The beautifully decorated cottages that adorn Dean Porter Park in Brownsville every holiday season are back. They have been preparing the park for the last few weeks for the 16th season of its Holiday Village in Brownsville. The Holiday Village officially opens on November 24. Each year one or two new ones might be added, so you never know what you might see. Currently there are over 30 fully decorated cottages lining the sidewalks at the park.
The City of Port Isabel will kick off the 2025 holiday season with their 17th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Hometown Christmas Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 6. The community celebration will be held in the heart of coastal Port Isabel.
