Enjoy some wonderful Christmas music by attending the RGV Concert Band’s Christmas Concert. The concert will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1107 Fern (McAllen), on Sunday, December 14, at 3 p.m.

The RGV Concert Band is made up of local and Winter Texans. The group started in 1996 and some of their members are in their 80s and 90s. The current band director, a retired school band director, Gene Goede, is 91.

During the last 25 years the group has grown to as many as 65 members but usually stays at around 45 to 50 members. The membership includes Winter Texans from throughout the States and Canada. Most of the members have been with the group for several years, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of it.

The 3 p.m. concert is open to the public and is given in appreciation to Our Savior Lutheran Church for allowing the band to use their facilities for practices.

Attendees will be treated to one hour of traditional Christmas music that includes both contemporary and religious selections. A free will offering will be taken.

Following the holidays, Christmas folders will be filed away, and the band will focus on the January through March Concerts held in various 55+ parks. The group usually performs six concerts per year during the season. If you’re interested in joining the RGV Concert Band, please come to a concert and /or contact director Gene Goede at (956) 682-9225.
