20250322 Texas Onion Fest HMoering DSC 0342 webThe Annual Texas Onion Fest is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, in historic downtown Weslaco, from 10:15 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. There will be live music, onion eating contests, a car show, and more. Admission is free.

The Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the world-famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in 1983. It is also the state vegetable of Texas. The name of the 1015 onion came from the suggested planting date, October 15. Known for its sweet, mild flavor, it has become a Texas favorite.

Texas Onion Fest is sure to provide a fun filled day of live music, dancing horses, kiddie rides, onion eating contests, pet costume contests, a health fair, a car show, 1015 market, and so much more. The festival is just one of many attractions Weslaco has to offer, and an opportunity to celebrate this agricultural achievement in Weslaco. Be sure to keep an eye out for 1015 Golden Wrapped Onions throughout the festival for fun prizes.

There will be three performance stages with live entertainment. Find Texas Onion Fest on Facebook for times of performances. The car show will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You will also have the chance to meet Tex, the official mascot of the Texas Onion Festival – who hides those golden onions. He anxiously awaits each year to celebrate this special festival with you.

Free parking will be available along the festival route, additional parking sites include the City Hall parking lot and South Texas College. Main locations will be Bus. 83 and 6th Street and Kansas Ave. There is usually a free park and ride from South Texas College and LRGVDC to festival drop off point at Cortez Hotel.
