On January 29, 2025, 158 Kansans from all over the Rio Grande Valley met to commemorate the anniversary of the state’s January 29, 1861, admission to the Union. It was so special that 39 Kansans joined the group for their first time. Yay!!
This year’s event took place at Peter Piper Pizza in Weslaco. We heard many positive comments about this venue: its central location within The Valley; each person’s cost was much less than the last few years (based on your individual order); and the amount of time available for getting to know your Kansas neighbor.
Jan Bergman, chair of the event, and Larry Schmitt, communications, facilitated the day’s events. The organizers also thank the volunteers that facilitated registration and distributing the door prizes. Jan works hard throughout the year to accumulate the door prizes. We are also thankful to some of the attendees that brought a door prize to share.
